Explore outdoor fitness!

These 20 minute sessions will give you an opportunity to see what outdoor group fitness is all about. Using your body weight only you'll be taken through a full body workout to leave you feeling energised and clear headed.

Come ready to move in stretchy leg wear or short, a tee shirt and trainers. You'll need lace up trainers too. All abilities are welcome.

1. Dr Bike sessions

People can bring their bikes to be checked over by our expert mechanics. We will be running this in partnership with Reading Bike Kitchen.
 

2. Bike and Electric bike introduction workshop

We will be running an Introduction to Electric bikes and try out sessions. The introduction will run several times per day, (To be discussed) and will introduce interested parties to the different types of electric bikes available, pros and cons, costs, range and power.

As part of the session, we will discuss types of bikes generally and make recommendations on bikes suitable for commuting. The session will cover, electric bikes versus non electric bikes, and why buy an electric bike.

There will also be try out sessions running throughout the day.

This will be run in partnership with AW Cycles who have a variety of Electric bikes on display.

3. Basic introduction to riding to work workshop

We will run an introduction to basic maintenance several times throughout the day. This will cover:

1. Importance of the bike check
2. Tyres, brakes and bolts.

We will also discuss accessories and how to make your ride more effective, luggage carrying, lights, mudguards.

As part of the workshop, we will advertise our maintenance training workshops and the advantages of using local bike shops and Reading Bike Kitchen.

Creating a healthy approach to exercise in a busy working life (20 minutes)

There is evidence that being physically active can help you lead a healthier and happier life. Exercising for just 150 minutes a week can reduce your risk of major illnesses, such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke by up to 50%. This workshop provides top tips for including exercise in your busy life as well as some exercises you can do at home and at your desk.
 

 20 Minute Full Body Workout

A quick no equipment full body workout to do at home or in your hotel room when away with work or on holiday.

Using only your body weight I will give you an example workout. It will raise your heart rate and work your legs, arms and abs/core.  There will also be a warm up and cool down.

I am a personal trainer and yoga instructor. I have now taken my business online and offer online personal training and an online boot camp aimed at busy ladies. There are daily 20 minute workouts which can be done at anytime and anywhere including at home or a hotel room.

kateThere are multiple benefits of practicing yoga. These range from helping with weight management, toning, strengthening of muscles to the internal benefits including strengthening of mind and stress relief. It can greatly reduce anxiety and promotes general well-being.

About Kate

I have been practicing yoga for approximately 22 years. I qualified in Sivananda Yoga in Neyyar Dam, India in 2006 and have been teaching classes since 2007. I teach a strong flow class (power yoga) which incorporates Hatha and Ashtanga principles. I taught regularly at Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre for 3 years and provided cover for The Marlow Club and Kubu Spa in Henley on Thames before relocating to Reading, Berkshire. I am currently a cover teacher at The Club at Mapledurham and Caversham Health and Fitness. I also run a 'drop in' power yoga class on a Monday and Thursday evening at Emmer Green Youth and Community Centre and Tuesday (term time) mornings at St. Barnabas Hall next door to St. Barnabas Church. I also teach corporate clients and 121 classes.

This taster 30 mins will be a dance cardio class based on Strictly Come Dancing.

You’ll learn all the official Ballroom and Latin dance steps which we have put together to create an aerobic & FUN workout.

This class is open to ALL abilities, men and women just come and have some fun to FAB music!

Movement is the key to a healthy life. We can improve our wellbeing by simply adding more movement DAILY. One easy way is through DANCE. Dance is simply movement to music. Everyone can learn move better, you owe it to yourself to put aside any mental blocks and challenge yourself to learn a whole new way of communicating by learning to LEAD on the dancefloor.

Dance shoes not required. Please wear shoes that are easy to move in and do not stick on the floor.

About Jennifer

Jennifer Benavidez loves to dance–it´s been her passion for over 20 years. Born in the US, her Mexican heritage has given her dancing rico sabor (good flavor). She discovered ballroom dancing in 1992 while studying at the University of Texas at Austin. Jennifer’s hips made her focus more on the latin dances and then she discovered SALSA. Her salsa dancing, performing and teaching took her on lovely travels to LA, NY, Puerto Rico, London, Chicago, Israel, Berlin, Prague, Houston, and Casablanca. Not long after graduation she was recruited to teach in Amsterdam where she co-owned one of the top salsa schools in Holland for over 8 years.

About Your Teacher

Jennifer Benavidez is an international dance instructor originally from the US. A regular on radio, TV and film, Jennifer has taught, performed and competed in front of 1000s. She danced salsa on the Strictly Come Dancing Launch Show and taught Dr. Michael Mosley (Horizons, The 5:2 Diet) on BBC 1’s The Truth About Getting Fit. She is a regular Guest Instructor at the 5Star Caribbean resort The BodyHoliday St. Lucia. Many of her students have gone onto performing, competing and teaching. She coaches Reading University, guest teaches at Oxford University and Imperial College London. She organises Salsa Bachata Social Club, teaches for Red Hat Salsa and Revolucion de Cuba Reading. Two left feet? No problem! Her fun energetic attitude and 20+ years of experience will get you moving in the right direction.

Light Mind

Carefree choir for wellbeing - Tabitha Beaven

It’s well documented how good singing is for wellbeing; mental, emotional, physical and social - however if asked, ‘can you sing?’, nine out of 10 people emphatically state ’not at all!’ but it’s this 'fixed’ mindset, the ‘I can’t…’ stories and pressure we put on ourselves to be good at things that can hold us back from doing things that can make us feel great! This Carefree Choir is for all ’noise makers’ - there’s no intention to be any good at singing or any better at the end but it promises to be an uplifting session that demonstrates how good it feels to throw inhibitions and judgement out the window
